Come to Lobby Day and Rally with Us!

It's not too late to come to Albany and show your support for NY Midwives! Families and individuals from around the state are gathering in our state capital this Monday to show legislators that access to midwives is in the best interest for all New York State. If you've already signed up to lobby you will be receiving an email confirmation from NYSALM (New York State Association of Licensed Midwives) with your lobbying appointments and other important information. Please take the time to review the details we have listed here on the site.  You will find directions, times, local places to eat and more.

Ithaca

There are still ride shares available.  Email Marygold for info on ride sharing: marygold@gmail.com ******* If you can't make it on Monday, please take the time to contact your legislator to help pave the way and show legislators how much support we have for this Midwifery legislation. It only takes a few clicks and Albany needs to know we are here, we are informed and we need access to Midwives.

Lobbying Deadline & Call for Stories

Hello New York! We hope you are basking in the sunshine of this early spring! A reminder for you:

If you want to speak to your legislator on Lobby Day Friday, April 2 is your last chance to register!

Everyone is welcome to come to Albany to participate in the rally, but we need to plan ahead of time in order to make appointments with legislators. If you are thinking about talking to your legislator but are nervous, please don't be afraid to register!  You will be receiving a packet with a lobbying 101 guide and you will be matched up with midwives and midwifery students. Regardless of whether you lobby or not we look forward to rallying with you and hundreds of  families who support New York State midwives. Bring your friends and family!

Call for Stories

We need stories from across the state that exemplify the lack of access to midwives that currently plagues New York. It does not have to be long or detailed.  Just your name, town and a short description of any lack of access you have experienced.  Email all examples to hillary@freeourmidwives.org as soon as possible! Here is a great example of an email we received:
If you need any "I traveled for midwifery care" stories, I drove to Trumansburg from Endicott for appointments (1-1/2 hrs.) so I could have midwifery care in the setting of my choice.  🙂

Lobby Day 2010
